Campbell’s Magnolia
A glorious specimen tree for the large garden, Magnolia campbellii is a large, deciduous tree grown for its stunning spring blossom. Masses of huge (up to 1’/30cm across) goblet-shaped, rose-pink flowers appear in early spring on the bare branches, opening out like water-lilies as they mature to reveal their pale pink interiors (blossom colour varies from deep rose-pink to almost white).  Very little pruning required; prune in late summer to prevent ‘bleeding’.Campbell’s magnolia takes 15-20 years to flower, and needs a warm sheltered site to succeed.
